📋 Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1: Power Off & Remove Bottom Screws
Turn off your iPhone completely. Go to Settings > General > Shut Down or press and hold the side button + volume up button until the slider appears.
Locate the two pentalobe screws next to the Lightning/USB-C port at the bottom of the device.
Using the pentalobe screwdriver, carefully remove both screws.
Place the screws in a safe tray – they are tiny and easy to lose.
⚠️ Note: Keep the screws organized. The bottom screws are slightly longer than the internal screws.
Step 2: Apply Heat & Open the Device
Use a heat gun or a hair dryer on medium-high heat to warm the edges of the back glass for about 3–4 minutes. Focus on the bottom and side edges. The iPhone 15 uses a stronger adhesive than previous models.
Place a large suction cup near the bottom edge of the back glass.
Gently pull the suction cup to create a small gap between the back glass and the frame.
Insert a plastic opening pick into the gap to prevent the glass from resealing.
Slide the pick along the edges gradually to separate the adhesive. Use additional picks to keep the gap open as you work your way around.
⚠️ Warning: The back glass is extremely fragile. Apply heat generously and work slowly. Do not insert picks too deep – you might damage internal components or flex cables. Insert only about 3–4 mm.
Step 3: Remove the Back Glass Assembly
Once the adhesive is fully separated, carefully lift the back glass from the bottom, opening it like a book from the left side (the side where the flex cables connect).
Do not pull it all the way open – the cables are still attached to the logic board.
Locate the battery connector on the logic board. Use a spudger to gently pry it up and disconnect the battery. This is the most important safety step.
Now locate the following flex cables connected to the back glass:
-
Wireless charging coil cable
-
Flash module cable (usually 2 cables – one for flash LED, one for ambient light sensor)
-
NFC antenna cable (if present)
Use the spudger to carefully unclip each flex cable by gently lifting the connector's edge. They should click and release.
Once all cables are disconnected, the back glass is completely free. Remove it and set it aside.
⚠️ Warning: Always disconnect the battery before touching any other flex cable. This prevents shorts and damage to the logic board.
Step 4: Transfer Components to the New Back Glass
This step is crucial – your new back glass comes with the flash and wireless charging coil pre-installed, but you may need to transfer some small components:
Components to transfer (if not pre-installed):
-
NFC antenna module (if separate)
-
Any grounding clips or springs
-
The metal shield plates (if applicable)
Use your tweezers and spudger to carefully remove these components from the old back glass.
Apply a small amount of heat if adhesive is holding them in place.
💡 Tip: Take photos before removing components so you remember their exact positions and orientations.
Step 5: Clean the Frame Thoroughly
Gently peel away any remaining adhesive strips from the edges of the iPhone frame.
Use a spudger or a plastic pick to remove all old adhesive residue.
Clean the frame with isopropyl alcohol and a microfiber cloth. Remove all dust, glue residue, glass shards, and fingerprints.
Pay special attention to the corners and edges where the adhesive must form a perfect seal.
Make sure the frame is perfectly clean and dry before installing the new back glass.
💡 Tip: A clean frame ensures a perfect seal for the new adhesive and protects against dust or moisture entering the device.
Step 6: Install the New Back Glass Assembly
Take your new back glass out of its packaging. Handle it by the edges – avoid touching the exposed flex cables, the camera lens area, or the wireless charging coil.
Carefully connect the flex cables to the logic board:
-
Connect the flash module cable(s) – press firmly until you hear or feel a click
-
Connect the wireless charging coil cable
-
Connect the NFC antenna cable (if applicable)
Each connector should sit flush against the logic board.
Reconnect the battery connector by pressing it down gently until it clicks into place.
Power on the device to test the new back glass before sealing:
-
Check the flash: Open the Camera app and test both flash modes (auto, on, off)
-
Test wireless charging: Place the phone on a Qi or MagSafe charger – verify charging begins
-
Check NFC: Test Apple Pay or a tag reader app to confirm NFC works
-
Check MagSafe: The magnets should align perfectly with accessories
-
Check the rear microphone: Record a video and listen for audio clarity
⚠️ Important: If any function does not work, disconnect the battery and re-check the flex cable connections. Do not proceed to sealing if there are issues – it's much easier to troubleshoot now.
Step 7: Seal & Close
Once you confirm everything works, disconnect the battery again.
Apply the new adhesive strips that came with your replacement back glass. Carefully align them around the frame of the phone – follow the original adhesive path.
Remove the protective film from the adhesive.
Carefully place the new back glass onto the frame:
-
Align the camera bump area first
-
Then gently lower the rest of the back glass
-
Make sure all edges are properly seated
Press firmly around the edges of the back glass to seal the adhesive. You should feel resistance as the adhesive bonds.
For best results: Apply firm, even pressure around the entire perimeter for 30–60 seconds.
Reinsert the two bottom pentalobe screws and tighten them securely.
Perform a final power-on test to ensure everything is still working after sealing.
